Kia ora,
I went on an unplanned adventure last night. My sister-in-law’s motorbike broke down three quarters of the way along a four wheel drive road. She did have her tent and food with her, so she could have camped, but her bike was not going anywhere and would still need extracting. So we initiated a rescue operation. Cue an eight-hour round trip, a dinner of One Square Meal bars and apples, and a sketchy drive on a dirt road with a 200 kg motorbike on a rather small trailer. But we made it out and back home in one piece.
I prefer my adventures to be a bit more planned than last night’s. How about about you? Summer is around the corner here in the southern hemisphere, and for us Kiwis that means holidays, beach trips, tramping, and reading! What adventures do you have planned? We have some motorbike adventures coming up – but I’ll be driving the support vehicle with all the gear and food.
If you’re in New Zealand, check out the great resources from the Mountain Safety Council. Their tramping video series is great, and the Plan My Walk app has heaps of great walking routes, gear lists, and tips for keeping yourself safe out there.
Get planning and get out there!
Cheers,
Deborah
PS. Have you seen the 2024 Banff Mountain Book Competition winners? They were announced this week. What are you adding to your to-read list? I’m keen on Blood Sweat Tears, edited by Christine Reed.
