My wonderful little office

Kia ora,

Deborah's desk. A laptop is on a stand. There is a landscap monitor and a portrait monitor. The desk has on it two sets of headphones, a but of tea, a black keyboard, a mouse, a pan and purple pen, a cup with pencils and felt tip pens, and five pot plants,

This is my wonderful little, very yellow, office. It’s full of carnivorous plants and succulents, books, and colour.

Because I work from home, I sometimes get asked whether I’d be a digital nomad or go on a working holiday. Not for me. When I’m on holiday, I’m on holiday. And I can’t really work on my laptop. I get RSI just looking at a traditional mouse, and my back cannot cope with being hunched over a laptop.

So I have this ridiculous three-monitor set-up – and I love it. I can have a manuscript on the middle screen, the style sheet on the laptop screen, and a browser open on the portrait monitor. This set-up makes me a more efficient and happier editor!

In editing news, I’m working on my next blog post and I need help prioritising. Which of these are you most interested in reading about?

-> How to work flashbacks and back story into a travel narrative.

-> How to avoid falling into writing a “then we went here, and then we went there” story.

Reply and let me know!

Cheers,

Deborah

PS. What does your writing space look like? I’m nosy, so send me a photo or share a link to it!

📚 What I’m reading

Around the World in 80 Years, by Ranulph Fiennes.

I just finished listening to The Impossible Climb: Alex Honnold, El Capitan and the Climbing Life, by Mark Synnott. Really enjoyed it!
