Five reasons I love adventure books

Kia ora,

I have teetering piles of books on my coffee table. Most of them are travel and adventure, some are histories. As I was reordering them last night, I admired the covers and layout and photos, all the love and effort that goes into writing and making such gorgeous books.

And that got me thinking about why I love travel and adventure books. Here’s my list:

  1. I love reading about the cool trips people go on, especially trips I would be far too afraid to go on myself.
  2. I love learning about different cultures and traditions throughout the world.
  3. I love reading outsiders’ perspectives on my own country.
  4. I love looking at a beautifully drawn map and following an adventurer’s progress.
  5. I love stories that explore what it means to be human, what it means to live in this world, how we explore it, what mark we leave on it.

A bonus: as an editor for travel and adventure writers, I love being part of your publishing journey. Helping you get your story out is a real privilege. You’ve done the hard work of going on the trip, doing the research, and writing about it. I love coming in and giving your writing that extra boost!

That’s what I love about the genre. Why do you love reading and writing travel and adventure? Or do you have any book recommendations?

Cheers,

Deborah

PS. Did you catch my latest blog post? Having the right tool for the job. My chickens make a cameo appearance 🐔
