Kia ora,
Did you catch the blood moon on Monday? I’m one of those horrific morning people so I was outside in my jammies and jacket at 5.30am watching the moon turn red. A great start to the day, I reckon.
I’ve been wrapping up an adventure edit this week. It’s been great fun and I’m looking forward to seeing how the author takes my suggestions and makes them her own.
As part of booking a full adventure edit with me, I’m sending this author an editorial report (all my adventure edit authors get this). In this report, I go into more detail about what I’ve changed in your story and why. The idea is to give you an overview of what to expect before you dive into the manuscript itself. You can see my reasoning, see examples, and follow links to read more about particular points on writing craft.
I’ve had a few authors tell me that they’ve used that report when they’ve been writing their next book. It’s helped them notice the filter words they’ve come to rely on or the spots where they go into a bit too much detail.
That’s so great to hear! I never want you to feel like I’ve done the edit and left you to figure out the rest. And if you can use the writing craft advice in your next story, all the better!
If you’re getting to the point where you want a second opinion on your story or writing, now’s a good time to get in touch. I have two spaces left for the year – November and December. Reply to this email and let me know what you’re working on. We can chat by email or Zoom, and work out what the best next step is for you.
Happy writing, and happy adventuring!
Deborah
