Kia ora,
I’ve had a special guest in my office this week: a chicken in a box. She’s egg bound and making unsettling gurgles. But I’ve followed the advice (have you ever given a chicken a bath and massaged olive oil on her cloaca?) and I’m keeping her out of the galeforce wind and rain that’s thrashing the country. Fingers crossed she gets that egg out of her.
Did you catch my blog post yesterday? What to expect from an edit. It builds on what I talked about last week – what editing looks like behind the scenes.
Trust is a big value of mine. That’s why I’ve been sharing these behind-the-scenes details. If you have a better idea of what I’m actually doing with your manuscript, then you’ll see the value I can bring to your story.
I see editing is a partnership, and all the best partnerships are based on trust.
That’s also why I offer sample edits (they’re free!). Actually, I insist on them. Before I start editing away, you need to see how I work, and I need to see your manuscript. There’s a chance you don’t like my changes, or I realise I’m not going to be the best editor for your story.
Better we both figure that out early than halfway through.
If you want an editor who will care for your manuscript to the same degree she cares for sick chooks (minus the olive oil), give me a shout.
Cheers,
Deborah
PS: I almost took a photo of chook in the sink but it felt disrespectful in her time of discomfort. So, just imagine a chicken in a sink. I’ll let you know how she’s doing next week.
