What do you love doing the most?

Write the adventure: for travel & adventure writers

Kia ora,

Last weekend I put on my tramping boots and went for a loooong walk. I didn’t really need my boots, but wearing them made the walk feel more like an adventure. Plus there were cow pats everywhere.

I go for a short walk most lunchtimes, and I do a circuit of the Botanic Garden with an ice cream every week or so. But I hadn’t been for a proper-proper walk in ages. I’d forgotten how good it feels!

When I started my editing business, I edited for everyone. Academic editing, annual reports, novels – if the document had words on it, I’d edit it. But I shifted to travel and adventure editing because of writers like you.

You love adventuring, and I love adventuring, and when we connect over a shared love, the work we produce is just magic. When we both understand the genre and the travails that happen on track, the ideas flow faster and the refinements are tighter. I love that about the work I do now.

My weekend walk gave me the reminder I needed to get out way more than I currently am. With the Easter break coming up, you’ll find me in the hills and not at my desk.

What was the last good walk/tramp/hike/adventure you went on? Are you making the most of the long Easter holidays? Tell me what you’re up to! Let’s get out there.

Cheers,

Deborah

PS. The winners of the 2026 Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards were announced last week. Sophy Roberts’ A Training School for Elephants won the travel book of the year award.

I loved this book – Sophy is such a keen observer and she really goes the extra mile to make sure her stories are accurate and beautifully crafted. Highly recommend checking out A Training School for Elephants if you haven’t already.

Read all about the winners and shortlisted books.
