Why do I offer free sample edits?
Editing is a big commitment – for both of us. That’s why I offer free sample edits.
You need to see what kind of changes and suggestions I make, and I need to see the type of support your manuscript might require.
The author-editor relationship is as much about how we connect as it is the changes I suggest.
The sample edit will show you:
- how small changes to word choice can deepen your storytelling
- the encouragement and support you can expect during a full edit
- suggestions and tweaks that will give your book a professional touch
“Deborah’s guidance and suggestions were technically brilliant, sensitively delivered, and extremely constructive.”
Hannah Powell, author of The Cactus Surgeon
How it works
- You fill in my sample edit form.
- If it looks like we’ll be a good fit, then I’ll then request a copy of your manuscript.
- I’ll edit 1,000 words so you can see how editing can strengthen your writing.
- If you like what you see, you can confirm your spot with a deposit and I’ll get to work on bringing out the best in your story.
I want your book to be the best it can be
If you like the sample and go on to work with me, then by the end of our time working together you will have:
- a professionally edited manuscript that gets you one step closer to publishing
- feedback and guidance on what’s working and what can be improved
- suggestions to improve your story that go beyond fixing typos and grammar
- suggestions that deepen your descriptions and make scenes more immersive
“Without Deborah’s amazing help my book Chasing Tigers would never have been as good. That’s a fact.”
Stu Tripney, author of Chasing Tigers and Out Come the Dogs
